Kanlungan ni Maria Home for the Aged started its operation in May 2002 under the auspices of The Roman Catholic Bishop Of Antipolo Through the guidance and sponsorship of former Bishop Crisostomo A. Yalung. For Bishop Crisostomo A. Yalung, Kanlungan ni Maria is a dream. A dream that through his initiative and perseverance he made it possible and thereupon May 1, 2002, Kanlungan ni Maria was born. It was blessed by no other than Rev. Father Uldarico D. Dioqiuno together with some friends and benefactor of the home.

The idea of establishing this home came from Rev. Father Bienvenido Guevarra who established and run the former Bahay Kalinga Home for the aged located at Binagonan Rizal. He was then the assigned parish priest of the said town of Rizal. This gave the idea and encouragement to Bishop Yalung together with a group of Focalore who expressed their deepest desire to care for the elderly.

The leadership of Rev. Uldarico D. Dioqiuno, Fr. Dari in short, was chosen because of his awareness of the proliferation of the abandoned, the neglected, the needy older person, the disadvantage and the marginalized sector of the community and the society as a whole. The plight of this sector touches his heart as he feels the hardship of their situation. Hence, he provided them a shelter, food, clothing, medicines and other basic needs.

Rev. Fr. Dari made sure that Kanlungan ni Maria us a family and home environment wherein the target client could live a better and dignified life and while they are in the home, the staffs, the caregivers and the volunteers provides them love and affections, support and maintain their daily need. Make them feel that there are in a family and home environment. Throughout their stay in the home, a social worker will try to locate their families and friends for the purpose of reconciliation. In case no family can be traced, a long-term placement will be provided for them.

Because of his compassionate and humanitarian heart, his leadership is being supported by all priests of the Diocese and lay people within the diocese of Antipolo.
